TEHRAN -- On Sunday Professor Dehshiri said that the United States has adopted a double-standard policy on human rights, citing the fact that the U.S. takes no measures against many countries which are obviously violating basic human rights.

He stated that the U.S. has been interfering in the internal affairs of other countries for many years, but since September 11 this interference has increased. He added that U.S. foreign policy is based solely on U.S. national interests.

Dehshiri also said that the U.S. has substituted materialistic freedom for intellectual and spiritual freedom and suppresses every kind of social liberty on the excuse of maintaining security.

Dehshiri mentioned the elections in Zimbabwe, saying that the United States is trying to impose its puppet leader on the Zimbabwean nation by claiming that the elections were rigged.

The university professor said that the U.S. government sold arms to the former regime in Iran during the Carter Administration, even though it prioritized human rights issues at the time, which proves that the U.S. government only uses the human rights issue to achieve its political objectives.
